Mark Ward today announced his resignation as chief executive of the New Zealand Veterinary Association (NZVA) after almost two years in the role. Mark will be leaving the NZVA on 1 November to take up the next exciting step in a career highlighted by extensive leadership and business experience in the New Zealand food and agricultural sectors.

“The role with the NZVA was a shift in direction for me and I’ve certainly enjoyed working with the veterinary profession and helping the NZVA navigate the challenges of a rapidly changing environment,” Mark said. “We know veterinarians are trusted advisors on the farm and in clinics working with the family pet but it has amazed me how many other places you will find the veterinarian influence – from biosecurity to market access, animal welfare to academia. Veterinarians are largely unsung but they are such valuable contributors to the New Zealand economy and community.”

Mark said that, although he is looking forward to his new business opportunity, he will miss the close-knit NZVA team. “I have huge confidence in the team and how well the association is set for the future. The NZVA Board, branch committees, and staff are in a great space now to deliver changes that will take the association forward in leaps and bounds. I am proud of what we’ve achieved during my time as CEO and look forward to seeing many more achievements in the years to come.”

NZVA President Peter Blaikie thanked Mark for his leadership and for bringing new ideas to the NZVA table. ?The NZVA Board appreciates Mark’s important contribution to the NZVA and the veterinary profession. He has been an innovative and creative leader at a time of rapid change and constant challenge in the profession in New Zealand and around the world,? Peter said. ?Mark had an eye for opportunities and we are bringing many of these to fruition as we make sure that the NZVA is an association fit for the future. We all wish Mark well in the next phase of his stellar career.?

Mark will be working with senior management to ensure a smooth transition leading up to his departure on 1 November. To enable Mark to meet his commitments during transition, the NZVA’s Head of Business and Support Services Elise Adams will be the key contact at the NZVA.
