The Commonwealth Veterinary Association (CVA) run a book programme where books can
be donated by veterinarians in New Zealand and Australia to distribute to graduate
veterinarians (for free) in the Association?s member countries.
The programme is coordinated by Dr Jim Connah in Hobart, Australia with a sub-depots at the New Zealand Veterinary Association (NZVA) in Wellington and IDEXX Laboratories in Auckland.
Have you got books you could donate to the programme?
Good quality books published in the past 20 years are ideal for donation. Any veterinary subject may be of interest. The most popular requests are for books on small animal surgery, large animal medicine, microbiology and anatomy.

Requests for books
The books are available for distribution free of charge to graduate veterinarians in CVA member countries in good standing.
To request books please get in touch with Dr Jim Connah at jimconnah@bigpond.com to get a copy of the current inventory of books available. The current inventory in Australia and New Zealand comprises nearly 700 books with over 500 different titles. Most of the books were published during the last 20 years; older texts, for which more recent editions are available,
are discarded each year. Most areas of veterinary medicine are covered.
Requests for books should include the locations, box numbers and titles of the books, along with the mailing address to which the books should be sent.
Because of budgetary constraints and mailing costs, the number of books which can be shipped is normally restricted to up to 20 titles for institutions, and up to five titles for individual veterinarians in any one year.
Individual veterinarians are encouraged to share their books with colleagues in their area if possible.
